Packaging design

Packaging is the first thing people touch. I design packaging that is clear on the shelf, easy to produce and consistent with your brand, from the first concept to print-ready files.

[ How it works ]

The packaging process

From the first brief to the press check: eight stages that keep a pack clear on the shelf, ready to print and consistent across a whole range.

  1. Discovery & brief

We start with the product, the customer and the shelf: price tier, sales channel, budget, minimum order and any material limits.

    Deliverables

    • Written brief
    • Success criteria
  2. Market & shelf audit

I study competitors on the shelf and online, map the category’s visual codes and look for the space your pack can own.

    Deliverables

    • Competitor map
    • Opportunity notes
  3. Strategy & positioning

We decide the story and what the pack must say in three seconds, then rank the information from brand to benefit to detail.

    Deliverables

    • Positioning statement
    • Information hierarchy
  4. Structure & materials

Format, material and finish are chosen with your printer in mind, then drawn as an accurate dieline before any artwork starts.

    Deliverables

    • Dieline
    • Material & finish spec
  5. Concept directions

Two or three clearly different directions, shown flat and on 3D mockups so you judge them as a real pack, not a drawing.

    Deliverables

    • Concept boards
    • 3D mockups
  6. Refine & test

The chosen direction is developed in full, then checked at shelf distance, at thumbnail size online, and for room for required legal copy.

    Deliverables

    • Final artwork
    • Shelf-test notes
  7. Prepress & proofing

Colour separations, spot colours, bleeds, barcodes and marks are set up, and I review printer proofs with you before anything runs.

    Deliverables

    • Print-ready files
    • Colour & proof checklist
  8. Production handover

You get a clear handover for the press check, plus guidelines so new flavours and sizes stay consistent with the first pack.

    Deliverables

    • Handover pack
    • Packaging guidelines
